Hallelujah

Took the dog for his normal early evening stroll at 4ish. And for the first time this year we were able to complete the whole walk in daylight. It's so warm and balmy out there today it quite fooled me into feeling upbeat and hopeful that spring was on its way. I caught myself looking for green buds in the trees and daffodils.

As we walked past the ducks on the river (I thought of bird flu, of course I did) but I was able to watch, from about 6 or 7 yds, a young heron fishing. I've never seen one at work from so close before. Quite remarkable. And somehow very invigorating.

So to celebrate I went out and spent £200 that I don't have on a digital camera. Uh Oh. That means more crap photo posts. Apologies in advance

Hi Mig: I'm looking forward to getting to grips with it. The couple of practice shots I've done (while limited by the elngth of the power cord) look fab: really bright and well saturated.

It's got more than twice the mega doobries of my old digi (busted), but cost bless than 1/3 the price. It's amazing. And it's half the size, or less. I can slip it in my pocket, yet it has a bigger viewing screen and all the facililties of the old Canon.

It's a nice day to day - you never know .... the heron might still be there!

Hiya Kyah: any news? I'm worried about Donald. Ducks are very vulnerable.

er, length, that would be.

Doh Doh and Doh again. It was Grebe I am now told.
Anyway, it was on a different much wider part of the river today, a long way off and not working. And on a dull day like today it was a dull shot, so I didn't bother.

uh, the documentary was not that useful, except for finding out the names of several scientists, epidemiologists, etc who are studying the bird flu and preparing for a pandemic. It was a dramatization, based on current knowledge of emergency preparedness and disaster relief. Looks like we're really f*cked if and when it starts rolling. Very disturbing.
Here is a link to the CBC webpage talking a bit about the program.
