Next blog mystery

Every so often, when I am bored I "next blog" for a few minutes. Almost invariably I end up on some site like this one here. Can anyone explain it/them? Recently I came across a whole series to do with boats, but the content is, like this one, gobbledygook. Is it my browser (does it make sense in IE? In Camino it looks like random words)? Or are they, as I rather hope, some deeply sinister plot that 007 has his best people working on?

UPDATE: OK, so the link has been broken and the site taken down. Bit odd really as someone from there visitied my site about ten minutes after I hit on theirs by. Anyway, I find I have a cached version and so I've cut and past a sample of the text further down, in a rather fetching colour.

Oh, and another mystery: just when will Andy Robinson come to his senses and resign? Actually, that's not the mystery which is "Why hasn't he already quit?" double teamed with "Why on earth was he appointed in the first place?". These are rhetorical really: I don't get much right, but I got that one spot on.

PS If I disappear - suspect foul play. Or maybe fowl play.

I use IE and it's just a blank page. I agree you about AR but can't see an alternative on the horizon. Plus there just aren't the matchwinning players any more - what price the new Johnson, Wilkinson, Robinson? Corry, Hodgson, and especially Voyce is a poor comparison.

hmmm, still shows up to me, even after emptying the cache.
I agree about the matchwinners, but even so, the team work should be beating the Irish and Scots.
I'd rather try someone new than pesist with this failure. What about St Andre?

i just get a blank grey page with that link.

are you guys talking about football? (or is this a broke-back moment?) (another one!)

oh, I only got a grey page too, but given the www title was house country garden something I'm not too disappointed

Well the link worked for me. The blog didn't though. Just very odd.
I think it's a cryptonomicon fan club blog.

I one caught about three or four blogs that were updated (published, on that list of blogs just published on the left of your screen as you log in) within minutes of each other

each one seemed to have nonsensical text, but I think (DCI writes, with her EmEyeFive hat on) that if you read one sentance/phrase from each of them in a certain order, you'd find that between them they each contained one piece of text/instructions/info which had been split up and loaded up separately across a range of blogs and the text only makes sense if you know which blogs to read in which order

if you see what I mean

kind of like if Mig posted the first line from a recipe, then Beep posted the second line, then CWC posted the third, then someone else the fourth, the CWC the fifth, Beep the sixth, Mig the seventh, someone else enitrely different again the eighth (I needn't go on, you know what I mean, don't you?)

and maybe there's another blog with a 'decipher the code' set of instuctions

ooooh - we could write an interesting book along these lines, couldn't we?

and maybe the grey page is because there are only certain times when the blog is fully published, so unless you know the time, you can't access the info at all?

That's a spam blog; there are thousands of them. They're fake blogs that people use to make money from the Google Adsense scheme. But I can't work out how.

If you google "spam blogs", you will find a wealth of articles about them.

You may be right Patroclus. Thanks. I had a rummage on google as suggested and am significantly less clear about it all than I was. I am not normally a conspiracy theorist, but these seem to have no point at all, and as the one this links to mentions Bush and Sept 11 and Al Q and all sorts of stuff, I shall leave now, before I become one. A conspiracy theorist, that is.

PS, Blogspot seems to be particularly hated among the anti-spam-blog brigade.

Stand by for incoming, I suppose

This makes sense, having looked at the text for a minute. It contains fragmented stuff about maybe politics, and definitely poker, both of which are big bloggy subsets which can be expected to generate clicks. Don't know how this can generate money, but its the start of a theory. Maybe.

Or, it's coded instructions to bounty hunters on how to find The Beep. And kill him.

my God, Beep, I have just spent twenty precious minutes, I would say "invested" but it didn't turn out that way, of my time Next Blogging

there is a load of crap out there, isn't there? is a better way to do it to search thru the personal details that people give about themselves on the profile page? not that like-minded interests would necessarily generate interesting blogs

but - boy oh boy - how sad (not that I had any wild expectations or anything) (oh, I suppose I must have done, in order to have ended up feeling so disappointed)

but coming back here (EL) is kinda like coming home to sit in front of a really lovely warm crackling fire on a bitter damp day

with a glass of one's favourite tipple in one's hand, and some nice music on in the background

and a comfy sofa to sink into

and an interesting conversation going on all around

(you get the drift, I can stop now, can't I?)

right, off into the bitter damp real world now

I think it's something to do with getting internet traffic to other sites. The blogs with the rubbish on them have a meta-link somewhere in the template. When the google bot crawls the web it 'sees' all those words pointing to various other websites. This increases the other pages placing within Google.

Or something like that.

Although Don't Chase Its' explanation is much more interesting.
