My God, falling over that weir has got to be dangerous. It's a powerful force. Full story?...
And I used to enjoy canoeing a lot. I quite envy them. Mind you, it would have to be the Queen Mary to keep me afloat. And she might not be so manouverable in the Thames.
It wasn't nearly as rough as that! The river was low. Had to swim across the backwater to retrieve something thrown across, I forget what. Shoe maybe. This was before the wooden footbridge was there.
Aaaanyway, there were some girls on the weir screaming at me to keep away from the weir, and boys being boys I go closer, and ... it wasn't too bad. I held onto the metal bar under the walkway for a bit to show off, and then just slid down the other side. A couple of strong strokes underwater in the foam and you're out of the fast water.
We did it for fun after that. Once we realised it isn't really dangerous.
Did I tell you about the time I swam through the underwater sluice in the lock gate .... ?

Looks too cold for me! I hate having my head under water.
Have to disagree. That looks fun. I want a go.
I used to fish by that weir. I confess I've been washed over it when swimming too - drunken summer teenage antics.
*sigh*
Boys will be boys.

No. I feel it deserves telling tho'.
You were clearly a lot more gung ho than I was at the same age.
If gung ho=show-off-in-doomed-attempt-to-attract-girls, then maybe.
Looks like fun..but only in summer thankyou!
